Hi there, Rockin' Rick here. Bass
player, vocalist, husband to Maria and
father to our two children, Christina
& Julianna. They continue to support
me every step of the way.
It all began when my dad
asked me if I would like to learn how to
play an instrument. I told him I would
really like to play the drums. At first
he said "ok", but his patience
couldn't take it, and neither could my
drum teacher Mr. Ward who soon dropped me
from the program.
From there I went into the
West Genesee High School Chorus where I
was taught how and when to sing. While in
the chorus I had an opportunity to sing
with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra for
a one-night stand, which was impressive
for a 12 year-old. It wasn't long before
the boys in the neighborhood put a combo
together and asked if I would like to
join, which I did. We played C.Y.O. and
high school dances until classes began in
the fall. The next thing I wanted to do
was learn to play the bass guitar. I
thought the stand up bass was the
coolest, but unfortunately, I couldn't
master the bow. As you might guess, I was
let go once again.
I was now beginning to
believe music was a tough business. As
time went on I began to perform with
other groups in and around Syracuse, New
York. I played acoustic guitar and sang
with an old friend who had just come home
from Vietnam. Sometimes, we play all
night long. Boy, those were the days. I
also performed in a duo with a friend
"Champaign - Jimmy Fric" for a
couple of years. Later I joined an oldies
group called "Reunion" and
shared lead vocals with Brad
"Shorty" Wilson.
Eventually, I did get to play my
bass guitar with a band known as S.T.P.
(Straight to Play). We wrote and recorded
our own music. There was Bruce, Manny,
Kenny, Duane Ray, and myself. This group
lasted over six years and we had a lot of
fun and some heartaches, too.
After that, I got together
with Bruce "The Voice" Osterman
and transitioned to country music. Bruce
and I formed a group called the Crystal
Mountain Band with Johnny "BOOM /
BOOM " Weber and Mike
"Fingers" Waller, who's
whereabouts is still unknown. I'll tell
you what, we really kicked some booty.
Over the years, I've
written, produced and recorded some of my
material. Although they may not be # 1
hits, but the process was a lot of fun.
Later on in my musical career, I
met up with some real good players
calling themselves "Thunder
Canyon". WOW - what a sound. I
needed these guys to allow me to play at
the top of my game - and they did. I'm
certain without the musical background
leading up to them I could never have
made the grade.
I've chosen a few of my
favorite selections and I hope you enjoy
them.
Please sign my guest
book and tell me what you think.
